Tree Huggin' Designs is a mom owned Etsy shop carrying wool dryer balls, cloth wipes, baby blankets, organic clothing, and more! I stumbled across, "The Tree Huggin' Momma," a very cool blog a while back and was drawn to it when I saw that her sweet baby boy came early and was struggling with some health issues, especially since my own baby was also a preemie born around the same time. I was interested in her story, and that is how I discovered this great shop! Let me share Heather's story with you in her own words:
Last October I became a Mommy! However, my son, Xavier, was born a month early and as a result ended up on constant oxygen and also an apnea monitor. We were told that these issues would clear up by his original due date; however, that wasn't the case and when I was supposed to go back to work when he was 3 months old he was still requiring both pieces of equipment. I tried to go back to work; however, with all of Xavier's health issues I couldn't give my job the attention required. I was constantly driving back and forth to the day care fixing equipment issues, taking Xavier to doctor appointments and also heading to a different health care facility to pick up oxygen tank refills. Plus, I had a sick baby that I was worried about every minute I was away from him! It only took a couple weeks of this before my husband and I decided it would be best if I quit to be at home with him. That was when I decided to open an Etsy shop in hopes to help offset the loss of my income. I started with bibs, blankets and wipes but now focus more on the eco-friendly items like cloth wipes & wool dryer balls. I'm also currently working on a cloth diaper pattern and baby/toddler clothing which I hope to perfect in the next few months. Oh, and I'm happy to announce that Xavier came off of the oxygen at the end of January and we were finally able to stop using the apnea monitor about a month ago!
Here is a sampling of some of the adorable items available at Tree Huggin' Designs:
Since I've been fascinated with wool, and am always excited about finding ways to cut back on spending, I was excited for the opportunity to review two 100% wool dryer balls from Tree Huggin' Designs!
I had tried some plastic dryer balls, and was curious to find out if the wool ones work any better, and I have discovered that they do! Since adding these balls to the drying cycle, our clothes, diapers, and towels have seemed to dry more quickly and thoroughly. During a long humid spell it seemed that the clothes were always still damp even when the cycle ended, but since using these balls I rarely found that happening.
There are many more benefits to these wool dryer balls than just the function of separating the clothing and causing more exposure to the hot air. They also absorb moisture AND reduce static electricity.
One thing I have found is that the plastic balls that we had were spiky all over and I always felt like they would possibly be rough on my diaper covers and more delicate clothing, but with these soft smooth wool dryer balls, I feel totally comfortable. Not only that, they are much less noisy in the dryer! The plastic ones make very loud vibrating banging sounds, which aren't helpful when my little one is napping, but the wool balls make dull thuds that just provide rhythmic background noise.
I've been using these dryer balls for sometime and they're holding up nicely. I've had no problems with unraveling in spite of my forgetting to attach some aplix during drying and it's sticking to them a couple of times. These are sturdy dryer balls!
I HIGHLY recommend trying out Tree Huggin' Designs wool dryer balls. Here are some of the other colors available now!
Heather has generously given me two more wool dryer balls (same as those I reviewed above) to one very blessed reader!
